A Small Inheritance
When the clockmaker retired, he left Tomas a shop full of ordinary clocks and one extraordinary warning. "The blue clock lends a minute. It never gives one." Tomas thought it a joke until he dropped a customer's watch. He turned the blue clock's hand backwards. The watch rose from the floor into his palm. Outside, the church bell rang twice on the same note. He repaired the watch perfectly, then spent the evening wondering what could possibly be wrong with one borrowed minute.
