The Safe Crossing

Wind pushed the ferry away from its usual landing. Ren refused a dangerous shortcut despite the clinic's urgent calls. He sheltered in the eastern inlet and coordinated with the island rescue crew. They brought a suitable boat for the batteries and an escort for Noor. Ren kept the ferry passengers aboard until the main harbour was declared safe. From the cabin, he watched two small lights move carefully toward the shore. Courage, he thought, was sometimes the patience to take the longer route.
