Following the Records

The teacher helped them request old council plans. The lake had been drained into a buried channel before the school was built. A recent building project had blocked part of that channel. Water was collecting beneath the field. Lio and Bea made a model from cardboard and a transparent hose. At the council meeting, the hose overflowed exactly where their school stood. An engineer asked for their photographs. For once, the adults in the room stopped talking long enough to watch the water.
